Background
During the pandemic, we were confined to our homes, spending much of our free time consuming digital content. This situation prompted us to reflect on the pervasive digitization of our lives. Gasping Voices seeks to reflect on this theme, exploring our relationship with technology.
During the Covid pandemic, Freya and David of Jacowbski Invites assembled five dancers with backgrounds in both street and classical dance, offering them the opportunity to showcase their artistry in a theater setting.
The piece features a variety of dance styles, including hip hop, tutting, ragga, tricking, waving, contemporary, partnering, improvisation, and ballet.
Goal
Jacowbski Invites wants to build a bridge between theater and video or even better; between our everyday reality and the ever increasing and imminent digitization. Gasping Voices preserves and immortalizes the magic of theatre by combining it with the art of video. Additionally, increasing its exposure far beyond limited theatre capacities and potential pandemic restrictions.
Concept and direction by Freya Pauwels.
Video and edit by David Jacobs.
